Becoming Wise

Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom.

~James 3:13, ESV~

As we engage in our journey through recovery, wisdom is the guiding light that helps us live a life free from substance use. Where does this wisdom come from? It comes from our Sovereign God and His Word. It provides us the instructions we need to live by in order to experience true liberation and freedom. This does not happen overnight. We strive to live according to God’s sovereign will.

Not only do we strive to live according to God’s sovereign will, we also seek out worthy mentors and listen carefully to their feedback. We associate ourselves with men and women, who are secure and confident in their own recovery program, on a daily basis. By doing so, we develop our own values and beliefs in order for us to act accordingly.  The ultimate value is God’s inspiring and personal revelation revealed through the power of the Holy Spirit and meditating on the scriptures.

Aligning our recovery to the guidance and wisdom of a Sovereign God, seeking out secure men and women in recovery, and meditating upon God’s word day and night, we will develop a path filled with wisdom, genuine spiritual significance, and blessings towards others.

Novelist and author Elizabeth George is quoted “wisdom is the God-given ability to see life with rare objectivity and to handle life with rare stability.” Recovery is our God-given ability to develop an awareness of objectivity toward managing a life with true stability.
